Extreme Heat Ahead this Sunday

Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 04:20:19 GMT

Extreme Heat Ahead this Sunday It sure is a very hot weekend following highs up to 97F in Miami and 98F in Marathon on Saturday, and Sunday could be even hotter. It’s all thanks to a continuation of a land breeze out of the southwest, which allows the air to heat up rapidly as it gets steered toward the east coast metro, while skies will be mostly sunny and filled with a layer of Saharan dust.As a result, Heat Advisories are posted for all of South Florida through this evening for feels-like temperatures up to 110F across the mainland and 112F across the Florida Keys.Aside from record heat being possible — if not likely — in both Miami and Marathon again today, Miami has a shot at reaching 98F, which is our forecast high. Most years never reach a temperature that high and the record for most days with a high of at least 98F is 2 days, which happened in back-to-back years of 2019 and 2020!The heat will remain relentless into our Monday and Tuesday, too, with highs remaining in the mid to upper 90s...

Summer Sun & Heat

Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 04:20:19 GMT

Summer Sun & Heat After a gorgeous day yesterday, we’ll do it again today! This really is our first full nice weekend since Memorial Day, so we’re due for this. Sunshine will be out in full force today with temperatures climbing to the 80s. There’s not much wind, so not enough to hold off the sea breeze. It’s not a straight push of east wind so it’ll take time for the onshore wind to kick in. If you’re on the coast you’ll probably make a quick jump to the low 80s then settle back to the 70s once the sea breeze sets in later today.Yesterday was a great beach day and today will be a repeat of it. South of Cape Ann, water temperatures are really making some nice ground, especially in Buzzard’s Bay and Nantucket Sound where buoys are reporting water temperatures well into the 70s! Rip current risk is low today and waves are only about 2-3 feet. Enjoy!Tomorrow will be another summer gem! Sun is back to kick off the work week and temperatures will be a few de...

Musk says Twitter to change logo to “X” from the bird. Changes could come as early as Monday. NEW YORK (AP) — Elon Musk said Sunday that he plans to change the logo of Twitter to an “X” from the bird, marking what would be the latest big change since he bought the social media platform for $44 billion last year.In a series of posts on his Twitter account starting just after 12 a.m. ET, Twitter’s owner said that he’s looking to make the change worldwide as soon as Monday. “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk wrote on his account.Earlier this month, Musk put new curfews on his digital town square, a move that came under sharp criticism that it could drive away advertisers and undermine its cultural influence as a trendsetter. In May, Musk hired longtime NBC Universal executive Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s CEO in a move to win back advertisers. Luring advertisers is essential for Musk and Twitter after many fled in the early months after his takeover of the social media platform, fearing damage to their brands in the ...

‘Mama bears’ may be the 2024 race’s soccer moms. But where the GOP seeks votes, some see extremism In many election cycles, there’s a snappy shorthand used to describe the type of voters who may help decide the winner. Think soccer moms or security moms. Even NASCAR dads. And now, the “mama bears.”These conservative mothers and grandmothers, who in recent years have organized for “parental rights,” including banning discussion of gender identity in schools, have been classified as extremists by the Southern Poverty Law Center. They have also been among the most coveted voters so far in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.Donald Trump praised their work, saying organizations such as Moms for Liberty had taught the liberal left a lesson: “Don’t mess with America’s moms.” Ron DeSantis said “woke” policies had “awakened the most powerful political force in the country: mama bears.” His wife, Casey DeSantis, who launched “Mamas for DeSantis” in leadoff-voting Iowa, said moms and grandmas were the “game changer” in DeSantis’ blowout win for a second term as Florida governor. She pr...
