DENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado Department of Transportation is reminding drivers that no one is above the law this holiday season: not Rudolph, not the Grinch and not even Santa Claus. CDOT reported 48 people were killed on Colorado roads last December, and half of those deaths involved an impaired driver. The season of gift giving is upon us, and several Miami Garden schools received a huge gift from the Miami Dolphins. A police officer and at least three utility workers were hurt Wednesday in a crash on Totten Pond Road in Waltham, according to the Massachusetts State Police and National Grid.The crash happened Wednesday afternoon and drew a massive emergency response. Near 6:40 p.m., state police in a post on X confirmed a Waltham police officer was injured. State police said the officer was injured in an initial crash. A suspect then stole a Waltham police cruiser, according to police, fled and crashed. Police said authorities gave chase on foot after the second crash and ultimately took the suspect into custody. State police said an investigation was ongoing as of 6:40 p.m. National Grid in a separate statement said members of one of its crews were hit by a vehicle “driven by a member of the public” while they were working in Waltham. Neighbors expressed shock Wednesday, one day after 44-year-old Lauren Erickson Van Wart was identified as the victim in a deadly shark attack in the Bahamas earlier this week. Authorities said Van Wart was paddleboarding off New Providence Island on Monday when she was attacked. Van Wart’s husband, who was paddleboarding with her, was not hurt. Van Wart, meanwhile, was rescued and given CPR but later died. Peru’s constitutional court ordered his immediate release on Tuesday, but the Inter-American Court of Human Rights asked for a delay to study the ruling.Fujimori, who governed Peru from 1990 to 2000, was sentenced in 2009 on charges of human rights abuses. Two bad guys, one a convicted murderer and another charged with child rape, are off Massachusetts streets and in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody following separate arrests last week.The first to be picked up was a 35-year-old Guatemalan national who was arraigned on a charge of statutory rape of a child, as well as a charge of intimidation, in Worcester District Court on Oct. 20. A long-term care and rehabilitation hospital intends to shut down due to multi-million-dollar losses, making Stoughton the latest community to lose a health care facility as part of a growing trend throughout the commonwealth.Dallas-based Steward Health Care, which describes itself as the largest owner of community-based hospitals in Massachusetts and fourth biggest private employer, plans to close its New England Sinai Acute Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Hospital (NESH) by early April.“Nearly 75% of Steward hospital patients are public pay (Medicare and Medicaid) which chronically underpay, sometimes at rates less than the cost of delivering services,” Steward said in a press release this week. “As a result of these chronic low reimbursement rates, Steward has lost $22 million from NESH operations and cannot afford to keep the facility open.
